This app is intended to provide a table of concentration factors (CF) for your urine electrophoresis samples. It assumes that you first measure your sample Total Protein (TP) and then desire to adjust the CF accordingly. As the initial TP increases, the CF may be reduced. It assumes that 20 µl of concentrated urine is required for regular urine electrophoresis (UPEP) and 100 µl is needed for immunofixation (IFE). It allows you to select the desired final TP after concentration.

1. Select the Sample Type. While most labs use a constant sample volume some will vary the sample volume based on the initial Total Protein (TP). For variable samples, the initial volume is reduced as the initial TP increases.
2. Select the type of electrophoresis (UPEP or IFE).
3. Select the model of concentrator you are using.
4. Input the desired final TP for electrophoresis. This will vary depending on the sensitivity of your gel. Generally 1-2 G/dL is recommended for UPEP and 0.5-1 G/dL for IFE. Please check with your electrophoresis supplier if you have questions on this.
5. Click Submit and your table will be displayed. You may then click on the Print Table button to have a record.
